31 Days of Prayer for Revival - Day 28

“Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have its approval. For government is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, because it does not carry the sword for no reason. For government is God’s servant, an avenger that brings wrath on the one who does wrong. Therefore, you must submit, not only because of wrath, but also because of your conscience.” (Romans 13:3–5 CSB)

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions,” (1 Timothy 2:1–2 ESV)

Today, before we summarize our week of praying for civil leadership, we focus on law enforcement personnel. Stories appear almost daily of the men and women of our state troopers, county sheriff deputies, municipal police officers being hurt or killed in the line of duty. Sometimes the stories are of those officers who egregiously abuse their power & authority crossing the line of the law and of civility. They need our prayer support, especially if we think there is systemic police brutality.

Pray

Lord God Almighty, we know You desire law and order in society for You have given us the Ten Commandments that include laws we enshrined in our civil laws. You establish systems of dealing with law breakers and maintaining peace at the city, county, state, and national levels - systems that need men and women to enter into potentially very dangerous situations. I pray that they know You, Jesus, and You know them in the power of the Holy Spirit. So I come to You, Father, lifting these women and men to You for Your anointing, Your protection; don’t let their hearts become hardened and calloused. They run toward danger to protect and save strangers, who may turn against them. Give them wisdom and discernment to deal ethically and lawfully in every situation. Guide them by Your Word, their conscience and Code of Conduct, remembering protocol. You called Joshua to “be strong and courageous”; help our law enforcement personnel to hear this call from You too, seeking to do the right thing for the best outcome, knowing the work they do should reflect Your character of justice and peace. Help the families of these officers deal with demanding schedules, and by Your presence comfort the families who are mourning the death of a loved one who died in the line of duty. Give them strength, perseverance, wisdom and discernment in their moving forward in life. I ask this in Your Name and for Your glory Lord Christ. Amen.
